Over the past few months, we have seen a high level of competitive activity and many discussions regarding the evolution of the format. The Committee took the time to monitor performance, analyze available data, and discuss current trends before sharing its position.
Peasant Masters 2025
The Masters brought together eight players with a diverse selection of archetypes:
BladeLF — U Delver
SkP — Tron
Zerox — White Weenie
Phalangel — Dredge Roots
Zombie33 — Kuldotha
Syckhopast — Faeries
Toufmade — Black Garden
Yamipotter — The Rock
The group stage confirmed the presence of the expected meta archetypes, featuring strong representation from Black-based strategies and proactive game plans.
he semi-finals pitted:
Phalangel (Dredge Roots) against BladeLF (U Delver)
Yamipotter (The Rock) against Zombie33 (Kuldotha)
The final saw a matchup between The Rock and Dredge Roots, resulting in a 3–1 victory for Dredge Roots. This result highlights several key elements shaping the current metagame:
The solidity of Golgari midrange/value strategies
The ability of synergy-driven decks to perform in closed-event field
The ongoing presence of aggressive archetypes like Kuldotha during the qualifying stages
Current state of the metagame
The analysis of recent results (Masters and online tournaments) highlights several key trends:
1. Real Diversity of Game Plans
The format currently offers:
Fast aggressive decks (Kuldotha, Red Assault)
Resilient midrange decks (The Rock)
High-synergy strategies (Roots, Storm, Elves)
Tempo shells (U Delver, Faeries, U Terror)
Various Tron builds
The variety of viable strategies remains significant.
2. Polarization of Macro-Archetypes
However, we observe a distinct structure forming around:
Decks with a single, highly optimized game plan (explosive aggro, linear combo)
High-synergy decks reliant on key pieces
Black/Green Midrange capable of absorbing pressure and disrupting combo
Pure control strategies and non-Golgari multicolored "good stuff" midrange decks are finding it increasingly difficult to establish a lasting foothold, or have completely disappeared from the landscape.
3. Impact of Recent Changes
The effects of recent adjustments are now clearer:
Kuldotha remains a meta-defining force despite previous changes.
Unbanning Gush enabled the rise of U Terror.
Strategies built around Broodscale and Wee Bee have regressed.
Ephemerate has not led to a widespread resurgence of White-based builds.
At this stage, no single strategy overwhelmingly dominates the field.
Committee Position
After analyzing available data, recent results, and internal discussions, the Committee considers that:
The format displays functional diversity.
No single archetype demonstrates a structurally dominant win rate.
The most played strategies are not necessarily oppressive.
Local metagame adjustments and tournament choices heavily influence overall performance.
As a result:
➤ No changes to the banned list at this time.
The format is considered stable and competitive in its current state.
Points under watch
Certain elements will continue to be closely monitored:
Affinity's position in the current environment.
The pressure Kuldotha exerts on the overall speed of the format and on deck construction.
The evolution of U Terror following the Gush unban.
The balance between the pressure exerted by aggro/combo strategies and the ability of midrange decks to sustainably exist in the format.
The format's capacity to allow new builds to emerge.
The Committee will pursue its analytical work along these lines ahead of any future decisions.
Community Dynamics
We also wish to highlight with great satisfaction the return of local initiatives after several years on hiatus.
The revival of a community in Thionville is fantastic news for the format. Likewise, Groningen successfully organizing monthly IRL events with over a dozen players—after nearly ten years of inactivity—is a very positive signal.
These dynamics show that the format remains alive and that local scenes can be relaunched successfully. We hope these initiatives will inspire other communities to revive both online and tabletop events.
Conclusion
Peasant remains a rich, technical, and evolving format. The Masters confirmed the competitive vitality of the current environment, showcasing different archetypes capable of reaching the top tables.
We will continue to track results and engage with the community ahead of the next update.
