Freeplay Tournament
The Freeplay Tournament is a unique tournament concept that runs continuously. In the Freeplay Tournament, each player can register any number of decks, play against opponents of their choice (as long as the tournament rules are respected), and there are no time constraints.
The Freeplay Tournament is the only online Peasant tournament organized here that does not count towards the online league.
How to register
If this is your first registration, you must enter your username in the "Dashboard" tab of the Google Doc. The first three letters of your username must be different from those of all other participants. If this is not the case, an error message will appear. You will then need to report the issue on the Peasant Discord.
To participate, a player simply needs to enter their Cockatrice username and hash in the "Inscription" tab of the Google Doc. Once this is done, a code consisting of the first three letters of the username and three digits is assigned to this deck, and the deck's status is then: "In."
There are four types of statuses:
In: Means your deck is still in the Freeplay Tournament, and you can play matches with it.
Out: Means your deck has suffered a defeat in the Freeplay Tournament and can no longer be used in matches.
Winner: Means you have won four matches with your deck. You can no longer play matches with this deck.
Error: Means a mistake has been made and needs to be corrected. See the section on different types of errors.
How Play
To play, you must have a decklist with the status "In" and find an opponent who also has a decklist with the status "In," with the following additional constraints:
Both decklists must have the same score, meaning the same number of wins.
You must not have already faced a deck from this opponent with your decklist.
You can use the Peasant Discord to schedule matches with certain players or announce that you are available for Freeplay in the appropriate channel.
Matches are played on the Cockatrice software and last 50 minutes plus 5 additional turns. This time limit can be disregarded by the players if they agree on it before the match begins.
Draws are not allowed in the Freeplay Tournament, so if the match is tied after the 5 additional turns, the players are separated as follows: the player with the most life points wins the match. If there is still a tie, the match continues until the first life point differential or until a player loses the game.
Once a match is finished, the score must be entered in the "Games" tab of the Google Doc:
Scores must be entered in the appropriate table, depending on whether it is the first, second, third, or fourth match for both decks.
The format to be used is: "First Deck Code" "Score" "Second Deck Code."
After entering your score, check that no error message has appeared in the "List of Error" table (see the section below for how to fix them).
After your deck is eliminated, you can, if you wish, indicate the archetype corresponding to your deck next to its code.
If you win four matches with your deck, you must then share your decklist on the Discord, and it will be posted on Mtg-Peasant.
Description of errors messages
The Google Doc is programmed to detect various errors that might occur when entering information into the Google Doc.
Error A: A result involving two decklists from the same player has been entered. This is not allowed, and the result must be deleted.
Error B: A deck is facing the same opponent for the second time. This is prohibited by the rules, so the last result entered must be deleted. To avoid this issue, you can enter the code of your deck and that of your opponent in the "Match" tab before playing your game to check if an error is detected.
Error C: A mistake was made when entering a result. The first match of a deck must be entered in the "Game for 1st Win" table, and so on. The result must be deleted and placed in the correct column. If the two decks that played the match have a different number of wins, then the match should not have taken place, and the result must be deleted.
Error D: A deck that lost a match continues to play other matches. This is an error because a deck that lost a match is "Out" and no longer participates in the Freeplay Tournament.
Error E: The deck's hash is not provided. It cannot participate until its hash is provided.
Error F: When registering a deck, no line should be left blank. Since decklist codes are assigned based on the order of registration, the registration table lines must be filled from top to bottom.
Error W: A deck's results appear more than once in the same table. Error W1 concerns the "Game for 1st Win" table, Error W2 concerns the "Game for 2nd Win" table, etc. The last result for this deck must be removed.
Be careful when correcting errors on the Google Doc, as resolving one error may cause new errors to appear that were not previously detected.
If you do not understand why an error message is displayed or if you notice an error concerning a deck that is not yours, please report it on Discord.
